Fire Safe Council "Partnerships" Conference in Oakland, October 10

Partnerships need to include strategies for sustainability. The final theme is Funding Dollars and Sense.

  • The California Fire Safe Council will recognize the on-going support of Senator Diane Feinstein to bring federal funding to focus on wildfire safety.

  • David Horne, PhD will bring us a look at future funding and match sustainability.

During the final portion of the day several fire safe councils and other groups will talk about how they have diversified their funding approaches beyond federal grants for survival of their council. Included will be:

  • Stephen Gort, Vice President & Treasurer, The Napa Communities Firewise Foundation, sharing how they developed a relationship and created value for Napa County so that they now receive fiscal support.

  • Michael Mees, Park Hills Home Owner Association, speaking on volunteer participation and how they learned to spark volunteers, organize their events and get fuel work done.

  • Nancy Baglietto, East Bay Regional Park District will share her experience writing compelling grants for foundations and corporations.

  • Jay Watson to wrap up with the Student Conservation Association’s experience building membership and using other methods to sustain their thriving organization.
