California Fire Science Consortium Releases an Updated Website with Easier Access to Their Library of Resources

California Fire Science Consortium has released an updated website with a new design and layout that makes easier to search and browse through their many research briefs, webinar recordings, and bibliographies. The CFSC is a network of fire science researchers, managers, and outreach specialists tasked with improving science outreach and knowledge exchange between fire researchers, managers, policymakers, and private landowners.

The new website allows visitors to browse through 10 different topic pages that include all of our resources and relevant links on that subject across the whole state:

Resources on the CFSC website are organized in the same five regional groups: Northern California, Sierra Nevada, Central and Southern CA,Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, and Wildland-Urban Interface.

Backyards and Beyond Wildfire Conference Scheduled for November 2013 in Salt Lake City

NFPA's Backyards & Beyond Wildland Fire Education Conference, Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel, Salt Lake City, UT November 14-16, 2013.

Wildland fires are a serious threat to lives and property in the U.S. In the past decade, wildfires have burned over 59 million acres of land. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, 2011 saw one of the worst fire seasons in decades, with close to 9 million acres burned. Decreasing fire risk in the WUI is a huge challenge, but NFPA's Wildland Fire Operations Division continues to work with organizations across the country and around the globe to raise awareness of wildfire and what communities can do to help lower their risk of damage.

Join NFPA in Salt Lake City for the 5th Backyards & Beyond Wildland Fire Education Conference, November 14 – 16, 2013. Share your knowledge, build relationships, explore key issues and learn about important wildfire mitigation tools and resources to help you and your community prepare for and adapt to living with wildfire.

This event brings together a diverse audience of leading wildfire experts, Firewise community representatives, community planners, civic leaders, homeowners and residents, insurance professionals, landscape architects and others, and offers attendees a chance to network with like-minded professionals and share best-practices that they can take back to their communities and workplaces.

Session education tracks at this event will include:

  • Research (Physical, Social, Ecology and Environmental)
  • Technology, Policy & Regulations
  • Wildfire Planning, Suppression & Operations

A pre-conference workshop, Assessing Wildfire Hazards in the Home Ignition Zone, will once again be offered November 12 – 13 with instructors, Jack Cohen, Physical Research Scientist, USDA Forest Service, and Pat Durland, President and Wildland Fire Consultant, Stone Creek Fire.
